    Your tracker

The heading of your tracker. Only the month is needed to get started.

    Habits to track

Small and specific works best: "Read 10 pages" rather than "Read more". Five to eight habits fit comfortably; the page has room for twelve.

    Why and reward

Optional, but it helps on the days you want to skip.

How to use this habit tracker

    1. Write the month at the top. One sheet covers a whole month, with a box for each day from 1 to 31. In shorter months, cross out the days you do not need.
    2. Add your habits. One per line, with a goal if it is not every day ("3 times a week", "weekdays").
    3. Print it and keep it where you will see it: on the fridge, by the bed or inside a planner. The page prints in landscape so the boxes are big enough to tick.
    4. Tick a box each day you do the habit. Colour it in, cross it or use a dot. A row of filled boxes is the point: it is satisfying to keep going and easy to see when you slipped.

Want to see one filled in? Open the example. To make one by hand, "Blank copy" prints the grid with empty habit lines.

    Habit ideas to track

    • Health: drink 8 glasses of water, walk 20 minutes, stretch, take vitamins, no sugar after dinner.
    • Sleep: in bed by 10:30, no phone in bed, same wake-up time.
    • Mind: read 10 pages, journal, 5 minutes of meditation, no social media before noon.
    • Home and money: make the bed, 10-minute tidy, no spend day, pack lunch.
    • Learning: practise an instrument, language app lesson, study for 30 minutes.
    • For kids: brush teeth twice, read before bed, tidy toys, homework done, help with dinner. Children often like colouring in the boxes themselves.

How to stick with a new habit

    • Start smaller than feels useful. Two push-ups done every day beats twenty done twice. Grow it once the habit sticks.
    • Attach it to something you already do. "After I pour my coffee, I write three lines in my journal."
    • Never miss twice. One empty box is normal. Two in a row is where habits fade, so make the day after a miss the one you protect.
    • Track only a few things. A page with fifteen habits is a page you stop looking at. Five to eight is plenty.
    • Review at the end of the month. Keep the habits that are now easy, drop the ones you never did, and start next month's sheet.

    Monthly or weekly tracker

A monthly tracker shows the long run: streaks, bad weeks and how often you really did something. That is why this template uses the whole month on one page. If you prefer to plan week by week, print the month and draw a line after every seventh box, or use the goal column for a weekly target such as "4 of 7".

    Questions

    Is the habit tracker free?

Yes, to print as often as you like. There is no sign-up and no email to give.

Can I print a blank habit tracker?

Yes. Press "Blank copy" to print the grid with twelve empty habit lines, ready to fill in by pen.

Does it fit A4 and US Letter paper?

Yes. It prints in landscape on either size. Keep the scale at 100% (or "Default") and turn off headers and footers in the print window.

Can I use it in a planner or bullet journal?

Yes. Print it and trim the margins to glue it into a notebook, or print at a smaller scale (for example 70%) for an A5 planner.

Is what I type saved anywhere?

Only in this browser, so your habits are still here next month. Nothing is sent to us.
